FreightCar America’s offering for Intermodal railcars includes single-unit stand-alone, 2-, 3- and 5-unit, articulated configurations.
Our Intermodal Well Cars are available as a five-unit 40′ model and a three-unit 53′ model. Each provides an optimized balance of payload, light weight and enhanced safety features, all at a competitive price. The 53′ model is a three-unit, double stack container car of welded and mechanically fastened construction. This innovative design offers a carrying capacity of 120,000 pounds per unit and will haul combinations of 20’, 40’, 48’ or 53’ containers. Utilizing our comprehensive design analysis process, this Well Car is a structurally optimized, fatigue-resistant design, offering patent-pending safety enhancements that include single-level walkways and a side-mounted hand brake.
Our Articulated Bulk Container (ABC) Flat Cars have a spine-type articulated, two-unit design, allowing for a tighter turning radius, that offers high strength and high capacity at a lighter weight of 70,000 pounds.
