FreightCar America’s AutoFlood IV aluminum coal hopper car has a light weight of 49,400 lbs. with capacity to haul 236,600 lbs. of coal. The car can be automatically unloaded using the MegaFlo™ auto-discharge system as well as being rotary dumped. The AutoFlood IV features a smooth interior, steep slope sheets, three double-door pockets in the center, and single-door pockets at the ends. The door system closes with tension rather than compression, and no periodic door adjustments are required. The AutoFlood IV uses our patented cold-rolled center sill. This lightweight, 70ksi yield steel backbone is used in every coal car built by FreightCar America.

The AutoFlood IV also features an interior geometry optimized to improve the flow of coal, the largest door opening area offered in the industry, and patented aluminum side stakes with integral wear bars. It provides an optimized balance of payload, lightweight and efficient unloading – all at a competitive price.
